Our first attempt at Okinoshima was unsuccessful. There were two reasons for that…HEAD WIND and CURRENT. These two factors combined were causing us to lose a substantial amount of ground and to illustrate this, at one point during our 10 minute rest period we drifted over 450 meters (1300 feet) north-northeast (away from Okinoshima). We would potentially have to paddle for about 18 hours due to our very slow progress, which would put us at Okinoshima in the dead of night. Not to mention I was throwing up like a mad-man and the skies decided to dump some serious water on us. (The orange line is actually the GPS track of our kayak that was taken with Gaia GPS)
